TVS Neo NX

As an updated version of the erstwhile-available TVS Neo underbone bike, the new TVS Neo NX has a few tweaks to its visual appeal which gives it a refreshed look. While the perception is still of a basic entry-level commuter, the new design changes do add some newness to the overall appeal of the TVS Neo NX.

Featuring slim bodywork, the TVS Neo NX has a compact front apron between the handlebar cowl and front fender. This small front apron now gets mild graphics on the sides and angular, tiny, clear lens turn indicators on the lower side edges. The handlebar cowl itself is quite large and gets a multi-reflector halogen headlamp, which looks inspired by the family-oriented scooters from TVS like the iQube and Jupiter. 

Below the lower edges of the front apron of the TVS Neo NX, there are long and sleek, vertically-aligned panels which now get refreshed graphics to add some sportiness to the otherwise plain-looking design. The lower edges of these side panels, which cover the central spine of the underbone frame of the bike, also partially cover the black-themed engine. The Neo NX comes standard with 17-inch black alloy wheels.

While moving towards the rear, the TVS Neo NX carries a simplistic and functional design, with its tail section having a sleek design with a long seat above it and a compact tail lamp cluster at the back. The long seat is slim but large enough to accommodate two full-sized adults. Sticking to the roots of simplicity, the all-analogue instrument console of the TVS Neo NX has a speedometer, odometer, fuel gauge and basic warning lights. 

Suiting its image as a basic city commuter, the basic mechanical architecture of the TVS Neo NX is also very plain. The TVS Neo NX has an underbone chassis with a spine in the middle while having a basic suspension setup comprising a telescopic fork at the front and dual hydraulic coil springs at the rear. For making city commutes a breeze, this suspension setup has been softly sprung, which eventually makes low-speed ride quality comfortable.

Even the low-speed handling is good, courtesy of the large 17-inch alloy wheels shod with skinny 2.75-17 tyres at both ends. While these skinny tyres are good for fuel efficiency and low-speed handling, they do lack grip when driven at higher speeds. 

While the entry-level 110cc commuters from TVS are not much present in the Philippines two-wheeler market, their heart has made its presence felt in the TVS Neo NX. This underbone bike is powered by the same four-stroke, single-cylinder, air-cooled, 109.7cc engine which powers the entry-level TVS commuters like Sport, Star City+ and Radeon that are sold in the Indian market. 

Paired with a 4-speed transmission, the 109.7cc engine of the TVS Neo NX makes a maximum power output of 8.7 PS and a maximum torque output of 8.5 Nm. The engine is known to be refined and has an impressive bottom end grunt for making city rides at lower speeds quite effective. However, vibrations can be felt when the engine is pushed beyond its comfort zone – while riding at higher RPMs.

The TVS Neo NX is a cost-effective, frills-free commuter machine, which misses out on several fancy safety features to keep the costs in check, It even lacks the basic essential safety assistance of an ABS or a combined braking system, but does come with optional carriers at front and rear for safe mounting of small items while on the move. 

For an entry-level commuter, which has been designed to fulfil the purpose of commuting from point A to point B, the TVS Neo NX serves the purpose. The affordable pricing, lightweight character and robust and fuel-efficient engine make it a preferable option for entry-level commuter bike buyers.
